About Thailand – Gulf of Thailand – Hua Hin, Pattaya & Ko Samui

The resorts of Hua Hin and Pattaya enjoy an idyllic setting on the shores of the gulf of Thailand but are both only just over a two hour road transfer from Bangkok. Both have grown extensively over the past 20 years with many new hotels to cater for all budgets, Hua Hin and its near neighbour Cha Am has a reputation for high class hotels and excellent golf courses. Pattaya came into being as an R&R centre for US troops on leave during the Korean and Vietnam wars and has kept its party town image. Further south in the Gulf are the Holiday Islands of Ko Pha-ngan, Ko Tao and Ko Samui. Ko Samui is accessible by air from Bangkok otherwise it’s a ferry from Don Sak a four hour drive south of Hua Hin but you can fly from many Thai cities to Surat Thani a 20km drive away. The majority of resorts on the islands are beach based and range from the simplest beach bungalow to 5* resorts.
